This UK-Swiss jazz collaboration saw the British jazz band LUME (Dee Byrne, Cath Roberts, Seth Bennett and Johnny Hunter) playing together with Werkstatt Berne (Oli Kuster and Simon Petermann) at Rich Mix, an intimate and atmospheric music venue in the heart of East London. It was already the second time the two bands had played together, following their first meeting at the tenth edition of the Jazzwerkstatt Festival in Berne at the beginning of 2017. The contemporary jazz tunes were all written by LUME leader and alto saxophonist Dee Byrne, and gave space to both lively tunes and more introspective nostalgic pieces in which the sound of Simon Petermann’s trombone mixed with the two LUME ladies’ saxophones. An enchanted public of jazz lovers applauded the concert, which turned out to be a revelation of the many colours and forms contemporary jazz can take on.
