Explosion of Words presented an imaginary library of modern poetry in translation, extending as a ‘text ocean’ over 24 metres of the Nunnery Gallery’s gothic walls, celebrating the power of language. The exhibition was the culmination of Swiss artist Hannes Schüpbach’s response to the oeuvre of East London-based poet and language activist Stephen Watts, whose work encompasses extensive research on poetry and the co-translation of poetry from many languages.
