In the context of Art Night, London’s ephemeral one-night-only art festival organized by the Whitechapel Gallery, Ambit’s twelfth exhibition was dedicated to Evariste Maiga’s colourful mixed-media installation. The London-based Swiss photographer and digital designer Maiga found inspiration in the city’s East End for a series of projections in the umlaut space, which were accompanied by music recalling the artist’s Togolese roots. Maiga focused on the details: images of off-licence stores, groceries and shopping bags portrayed East London by creating a colourful mosaic that expressed its vibrant atmosphere.
